Kathmandu: Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, concluded his official four-day visit to Nepal from August 16 to 19, aimed at further strengthening bilateral defence and security cooperation between India and Nepal.
Upon his arrival in Kathmandu on August 16, General Seth was received by senior officials of the Nepali Army and representatives of the Embassy of India.
On August 17, he paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel by laying a wreath. He later visited Nepali Army Headquarters, where he received a ceremonial Guard of Honour and held discussions with General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of the Nepali Army and Honorary General of the Indian Army, on expanding bilateral defence cooperation.
As part of India’s continued support for Nepal’s capability development, General Seth also handed over vehicles and medical equipment to enhance disaster preparedness and humanitarian response capabilities.
In keeping with the longstanding tradition between the two armies, President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on General Seth at Shital Niwas. General Seth subsequently called on President Paudel.
On August 18, General Seth visited the Nepali Army Command and Staff College in Shivapuri, where he interacted with students and faculty members. The interaction focused on the importance of academic cooperation and exchange of ideas between the armed forces of India and Nepal.
He also paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Nepal, with discussions focusing on the longstanding India–Nepal partnership, particularly in the field of defence cooperation.
On August 19, General Seth travelled to Pokhara and interacted with Indian Army veterans. He commended their exemplary service, dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding India’s sovereignty and security. Veer Naris and gallantry awardees were felicitated, while mobility equipment was distributed to ex-servicemen to support their well-being.
General Seth also dedicated the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic in Kohalpur to the ex-servicemen community. The facility is expected to strengthen healthcare support for Indian Army veterans and their dependents in Nepal.
The visit contributed to further strengthening the multifaceted India–Nepal relationship and defence and security cooperation between the two countries.
